According to a report from The Root, the well-established renowned music executive Sean "P Diddy" Combs aka "Love", made a $1 million donation to Jackson State University during their first football game of the season.
During the 2022 BET Awards, while accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to Hip-Hop, Diddy promised to donate $1 million to JSU and his alma mater, Howard University.
Diddy has made good on his word.
Over the weekend, during Jackson State’s first football game of the season against South Carolina State, the music and promotions mogul presented a check for $1 million to the HBCU in Jackson, Mississippi.
In an interview with ESPN, Diddy stated, “If it wasn’t for HBCUs I wouldn’t be here, and really just supporting HBCUs is not just my honor, it’s my responsibility. My grandmother raised me to make sure that I sow my seed in my community and that’s what I’m going to continue to do."
He went on further to state, " “So what they’re doing at Jackson State is to be commended. What they’re doing at Howard University is to be commended. All HBCUs that are under-resourced I’m here to do something about it."
Along with the donation, Diddy will invest in the school’s football program over the next several years, according to Jackson State.
Earlier that same weekend, in Atlanta at the Invest Fest, which is an “in-person experience to combine investing, entrepreneurship, pop culture, and entertainment in a festival setting”, Diddy presented a $1 million check to the event's founders, the economic/entrepreneurial-podcast Earn Your Leisure (EYL).
In a statement, he said, “I’m thrilled to join forces with Earn Your Leisure. We’re going beyond discussing finances and taking action to demystify the world of investing for our community.”
Despite music industry grumblings about business practices of the past, Sean Combs appears to be moving in a different energy these days, and recognition is deserved for that.
Diddy seems to be leaving an even greater legacy and living up to his new moniker, "Love".
We salute you!
